Scenes

Spread out in front of us on the screen is one of the few hundred days that Ernesto ‘Che’ Guevara spent in the Bolivian jungle. Asthmatically wheezing and whispering del Toro is explaining to us the winding paths of revolution overgrown by misunderstanding. The light is soaking through the huge fern leaves, the tiredness of the revolutionists is growing, and so are the enemy forces and Ernesto’s beard. History is winding above our heads like the smoke from his pipe. We know the end of the story – and just as well, we can focus on its shades.
Suddenly:

1st Woman: (her phone rings, she picks it up, a conversation in low voice follows, still louder than the asthmatic’s whisper)
2nd woman: (sighs) Por favor!
1st woman: (continues the conversation)
2nd woman: Por favor!! (louder than the first time)
1st woman: (finishes the conversation)
We: (continue watching)
Che: (is climbing)

1st woman: (gets a text)
2nd woman: (sighs very loudly) Por favor!!!!We: ( keep watching)
Che: (explains the revolution to the local poor people)

1st woman: (her phone rings, she picks it up, another conversation in low voice follows)
2nd woman: Por favor!!!!!!!
3rd woman: Don’t you have any shame?!?
4th womand: I can’t concentrate here!!!
5th woman: It’s you who doesn’t have any shame!!!
6th woman: Shut up!!!
2nd woman: POR FAVOR!¼ of the audience: Pssst!
Che: (it seems he’s saying something important)
4th woman: You can’t watch a film like this!
3rd woman: People have no shame nowadays!
2nd woman:Por favor, por favor!!!
5th woman: Jesus Christ!!
6th woman: You’re not at home!
½ of the audience: Psssst!!!!
1st woman: (continues her conversation)
Che: (his asthma gave in, yet one can’t hear him. We can’t read his lips because of his thick moustache and the pipe.)
The whole audience: (must be shaking their heads)
We: ( continue our lesson on Spanish mentality, today’s subject – Spanish women in the movies)

It’s scary to go to the theatre!

PS. 1st woman leaves the cinema before the end. Bored, because she knew the end or got cold feet before the aftermath?
PS2. We know the end of the Madrid story – and just as well, we can focus on its shades.
